Early Fall Events and Things To Do in Fall at The Wharf

Fall is always an exciting time, not just because of the changing weather and season, but because of all the fun events and activities that it always brings. And this year, there’s never been a more exciting place to spend the fall than right here at The Wharf Marina.

Check out what The Wharf neighborhood has in store for you this September to October 2023!

Fall Events in the nation’s capital

Freedom Forum 1A Fest at The Wharf

Join Freedom Forum in celebrating your First Amendment rights with 1A Fest at The Wharf! This event features live music, comedy shows, talks, and games that all serve to highlight just how important the First Amendment is to our freedom of speech and expression.

Hear firsthand from writers of the satire news site The Onion, Vitus “V” Spehar of Under The Desk News, and former NFL player Nate Boyer about how they use their First Amendment rights to perform acts of activism and free speech, plus subversive comedy acts and live music from Rahmein Mostafavi, Ron Funches, and JWX: The Jarreau Williams Experience to shed some light on how comedy and music can be expressions of free speech as well.

For a truly immersive experience, reserve a seat at Freedom Lost Cafe in The Brighton, where the food is free, but you aren’t. This unique experience promises to bring you to a world with no First Amendment and no freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly, or petition.

So make sure to strap in for a truly unforgettable experience at 1A Fest at The Wharf! Happening on September 9, 2023, at Transit Pier from 11 AM to 7 PM.

Oktoberfest Weekend at The Wharf

With fall comes one of the most anticipated events of the year, Oktoberfest! This year, join The Wharf in its very own celebration of Oktoberfest Weekend from September 15 to 17.

Kick off this year’s festivities with a traditional polka dancing lesson, then watch a whole fleet of adorable Dachsunds race to the finish line in the Wiener 500 Dachshund Dash. Then put your stein hoisting skills to the test with the stein hoisting competition happening in restaurants all over The Wharf.

Be a part of all the excitement from September 15 to 17, 2023, at The Wharf! Polka dancing starts from 7 PM to 9 PM on September 15 at Transit Pier. The Wiener 500 Dachshund Dash happens on September 16 from 2 to 5 PM at District Pier, and the stein hoisting competition takes place on September 17 from 2 to 5 PM all over The Wharf.

Rolling on the River

Celebrate World Rivers Day and Theatre Week right by the Potomac with Theatre Washington and Potomac River Partners’ Rolling on the River, a free concert event featuring local theatre artists and “river music” celebrating life on the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers, along with free activities from partners DC Water, NASA, and Blue Origin right before the concert.

This free, hour-long event starts at 2 PM on September 24, 2023, at the floating stage on Transit Pier.

The Atlantic Festival

Explore complex ideas and have intellectual conversations and discussions with a diverse set of minds and voices at The Atlantic Festival at The Wharf, the Atlantic’s new home in DC. Witness real-life journalism onstage with special talks on a variety of subjects, from politics, climate, business, culture, tech, health, and important social issues of today, featuring plenty of influential guest speakers, like Nancy Pelosi, Kerry Washington, Spencer Cox, Spike Lee, Jake Tapper, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and more!

With over 10 events per day and more than 70 speakers, this two-day event aims to be a melting pot of ideas, meaningful dialogue, and networking opportunities for everyone from journalistic professionals to the average reader looking to stay in the know.

The Atlantic Festival kicks off on September 28, 2023, from 9:30 AM to 9:30 PM, and on the same hours the next day on September 29, 2023, at District Pier. You may also attend some events and talks virtually if you can’t make it in person.

The Wharf neighborhood has something for everyone this fall, from family-friendly activities to intellectual hangouts and live events. Be sure to watch out for these amazing events & book a slip with us here at The Wharf Marina for them all!
